ELS DE SADELEER| GR4 | BRASSBAND|
“Winter Has Passed” is a long last breath of winter. During this breathing, winter takes its time to reflect in peace before it peacefully passes into its own ‘hibernation’. The composition starts with a colourful winter atmosphere, after which it moves on to an arrangement of a work by Jacobus Clemens non Papa: ‘Die Winter is Verganghen’.
The work then changes to another winter colour, with musical references to the previous movement. In the final notes, winter breathes its last and spring can awake.
Various musicians from the brassband get the chance to put their instrument in the spotlight. The brass as a whole gives the winter sound the necessary warmth. This is counterbalanced by the use of the vibraphone and the glockenspiel, which, as opposites, help to give shape to the cool sound of winter, without becoming cold. The work is intended to exude a certain heaviness and calmness with the necessary attention to musical movements, but without sounding aggressive.
