ROBIN VERHELST | GR3 | WINDBAND |
Composed for the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the Koninklijke Katholieke Fanfare (Royal Catholic Wind band) Nieuwpoort (Belgium) by their conductor Robin Verhelst as festive march. The title of the piece refers to this occasion. “Oak” stands for an anniversary of 80 years, “diamond” for a 60th jubilee. Add those two figures up and you get 140, the number of years the KKFN has existed.
Right at the intro one already gets swept away by a festive blast. The whole march rejoices in mirth and cheer. The composer takes great care that all the instruments can proclaim their full value. If you feel like dancing or doing a conga, please get going. The trio starts with a solo for percussion, which can perfectly be executed by a drum band. Then there is even room for song. The lyrics are not hard at all, a simple la la la will do fine.
